Currently on display at the Jane Kim / Thrust Projects gallery in New York City is a self-titled exhibit by Momoyo Torimitsu, featuring dozens of cast resin sculptures imitating melting chocolate Easter bunnies. Scattered throughout the gallery, some of the bunnies form groups, and some stand alone; while some are standing, others have fallen over. We were warned to step carefully, as some of the sculptures had already been trampled on. They're all in various levels of melting-ness — while some are perfectly intact, others are grotesquely deformed, even angry-looking. Some appear to be bending over, almost in prayer. Some seem perfectly happy to be there.

How The Amber Alert Got Started

The AMBER Plan was created in 1996 as a powerful legacy to 9-year-old Amber Hagerman, a bright little girl who was kidnapped and brutally murdered while riding her bicycle in Arlington, Texas. The tragedy shocked and outraged the entire community. Residents contacted radio stations in the Dallas area and suggested they broadcast special "alerts" over the airwaves so that they could help prevent such incidents in the future.

A Brief History of Alcatraz Before The Prison

The name Alcatraz is derived from the Spanish "Alcatraces." In 1775, the Spanish explorer Juan Manuel de Ayala was the first to sail into what is now known as San Francisco Bay - his expedition mapped the bay and named one of the three islands Alcatraces. Over time, the name was Anglicized to Alcatraz. While the exact meaning is still debated, Alcatraz is usually defined as meaning "pelican" or "strange bird."
In 1850, a presidential order set aside the island for possible use as a United States military reservation. The California Gold Rush, the resulting boom in the growth of San Francisco, and the need to protect San Francisco Bay led the U.S. Army to build a Citadel, or fortress, at the top of the island in the early 1850s. The Army also made plans to install more than 100 cannons on the island, making Alcatraz the most heavily fortified military site on the West Coast. Together with Fort Point and Lime Point, Alcatraz formed a "triangle of defense" designed to protect the entrance to the bay. The island was also the site of the first operational lighthouse on the West Coast of the United States.
By the late 1850s, the first military prisoners were being housed on the island. While the defensive necessity of Alcatraz diminished over time (the island never fired its guns in battle), its role as a prison would continue for more than 100 years. In 1909, the Army tore down the Citadel, leaving its basement level to serve as the foundation for a new military prison. From 1909 through 1911, the military prisoners on Alcatraz built the new prison, which was designated the Pacific Branch, U.S. Disciplinary Barracks for the U.S. Army. It was this prison building that later became famous as "The Rock."

This Day In Entertainment History

March 21, 1980
J.R. Ewing is shot!On this day in 1980, J.R. Ewing, the character millions loved to hate on television’s popular primetime drama Dallas, is “shot.” The simulated shooting made the season-ending episode one of television’s most famous cliffhangers, inspired widespread media coverage and left America wondering “Who shot J.R.?” for the next eight months. On November 21, 1980, the premiere episode of Dallas’s third season solved the mystery, identifying Kristin Shepard, J.R.’s wife’s sister and his mistress, as the culprit.
The CBS television network debuted the first five-episode pilot season of Dallas in 1978; it went on to run for another 12 full-length seasons. The first show of its kind, Dallas was dubbed a “primetime soap opera” for its serial plots and dramatic tales of moral excess. The show revolved around the relations of two Texas oil families: the wealthy, successful Ewing family and the perpetually down-on-their-luck Barnes family. The families’ patriarchs, Jock Ewing and Digger Barnes, were former partners locked in a years-long feud over oil fields Barnes claimed had been stolen by Ewing. To make matters more interesting, Ewing’s youngest son Bobby (Patrick Duffy) and Barnes’ daughter Pam (Victoria Principal) had married, linking the battling clans even more closely. The character of J.R. Ewing, Bobby’s oldest brother and a greedy, conniving, womanizing scoundrel, was played by Larry Hagman.
As J.R. had many enemies, audiences were hard-pressed to guess who was responsible for the shooting. That summer, the question “Who Shot J.R.?” entered the national lexicon, becoming a popular t-shirt slogan, and heightening anticipation of the soap’s third season, which was to come in the fall. Much to the dismay of Dallas fans, the premiere was delayed because of a Screen Actors Guild strike. When it finally aired, the episode revealing the shooter became one of television’s most-watched shows, with an audience of 83 million people, and helped put Dallas into greater worldwide circulation. It also popularized the use of the cliffhanger by television writers.
The shooting of J.R. was not Dallas’s only notorious plot twist. In September 1986, fans learned that the entire previous season, in which main character Bobby Ewing had died, was merely a dream of Pam’s. The show’s writers had killed the Bobby character off because Duffy had decided to leave the show. When he agreed to return, they featured him stepping out of the shower on the season-ending cliffhanger, and then were forced the next season to explain his sudden reappearance.
The last premiere episode of Dallas aired on May 3, 1991. A spin-off, Knots Landing, aired from December 27, 1979 until May 13, 1993. Dallas remains in syndication around the world.

"Say No To Racism" A True Story

This scene took place on a British Airways flight between
Johannesburg (South Africa) London (UK).
A white woman, about 50 years
old, was seated next to a black man.
Very disturbed by this, she called the air hostess.
‘You obviously do not see it then?’ she asked. ’You placed
me next to a black man. I did not agree to sit next to someone from
such a repugnant group.Give me an alternative seat.’
‘Be calm please,’ the hostess replied.
‘Almost all the places on this flight are taken. I will
go to see if another place is available.’
The hostess went away then came back a few minutes later.
‘Madam, just as I thought, there are no other available
seats in Economy Class.
I spoke to the captain he informed me that there is also no
seat in Business Class. All the same, we still have one place in First
Class.’
Before the woman could say anything, the hostess continued.
‘It is not usual for our company to permit someone from
Economy Class to sit in First Class. However, given the circumstances,
the captain feels that it would be scandalous to make someone sit next
to someone so disgusting.’
The Hostess turned to the black guy, said,
‘Therefore, Sir, if you would like to, please collect your hand
luggage, a seat awaits you in First Class.’
At that moment, the other passengers, who’d been
shocked by what they had just witnessed, stood up applauded."

Bathroom Perv Incriminates Himself

"Bathroom Perv Catches Himself in the Act
Mar 19th 2009
By Matt Glazebrook
Have you seen this creep? Well, if you've been hanging around public bathrooms in New Paltz, N.Y., he may have seen you. Or at least, parts of you.

Police are looking for a 6-foot-tall bespectacled man in his late 30s with a beard and ponytail, after he left a tiny video recorder in the unisex bathroom of a New Paltz Starbucks, with the apparent intention of capturing customers as they went about their dirty business.

The reason cops were able to give out such a specific description of the would-be perv? Genius here managed to film himself while he set up his scatological spy-cam.

Starbucks employees discovered the 2-inch device a few hours after it had been placed and handed it over to police -- but not before it caught one unsuspecting coffee lover trousers-down. No word on whether it was a number one or number two, or whether the baristas took a quick peek at the footage before doing their civic duty."

Hairy Fashion

A WOMAN has woven an entire wardrobe of clothes out of her own hair, after growing it for more than 50 years.
Ioana Cioanca, 71, has created everything from a hat to a skirt from her 40-inch-long tresses. She told the Austrian Times. “I have nine items – a hat, a shawl, a skirt, a blouse, a raincoat, a purse, a handbag and a pair of gloves.“They are all slightly different colours because of course I went grey over the years.”The 71-year-old from Bistrita Nasaud, Romania, added: “I did this because I wanted to show how practical human hair is. "The clothes are warm and comfortable – and the materials are free.”

Eskimo Ice Cream

The Inuit people of Alaska have a distinct version of ice cream. It's not creamy ice cream as we know it, but a concoction made from reindeer fat or tallow, seal oil, freshly fallen snow or water, fresh berries, and sometimes ground fish. Air is whipped in by hand so that it slowly cools into foam. They call this Arctic treat akutaq, aqutuk, ackutuk, or Eskimo ice cream. Akutaq is a Yupik word that means mix them together.
This is a delicacy that Alaska Natives have thrived on for thousands of years. This recipe was made by Natives a long, long time ago for survival and was used as a special traveling food. When hunters went out to go hunting, they brought along akutaq.
Akutaq can also be made with moose meat and fat, caribou meat and fat, fish, seal oil, berries and other Alaskan things. Women traditionally made akutaq after the first catch of a polar bear or seal. Traditionally it was always made for funerals, potlatches, celebrations of a boy's first hunt, or almost any other celebration. It is eaten as a dessert, a meal, a snack, or a spread.
Today, Eskimo ice cream is usually made with Crisco shortening instead of tallow and with raisins and sugar sometimes added. The region of Alaska lived in usually determines what berry is used, and each family usually has their favorite recipe for Eskimo ice cream. It is said that your choice of berries used in making Eskimo ice cream is a lifetime decision. It is okay to eat any flavor made by others, but if you are caught making more than one kind, you will lose all social standing .

He Says It Shimmied A Bit

An unlucky driver ran over a mattress but decided to keep driving. In his pursuit to continue, the mattress ultimately whipped around enough to put a tear in the gas tank. The subsequent lack of fuel is what brought the vehicle to a standstill.
The driver managed to drive 30 more miles before he pulled over to the side of the road– even with 60 lbs of tangled coil springs wrapped around the vehicle’s drive shaft. The driver’s only complaint was that his vehicle “shimmied” at high speeds.
For insurance purposes, these photos were taken.

The Law Of The Toddler

* Murphy's toddlers laws*
*When you need to carry a child they will want to walk.
*When you want them to walk they will want to be carried.
*When you bring the stroller they will want to walk.
*When you forget the stroller they will want to ride.
*The more potential a food has for stains the greater the coverage area when it is hurled by a child.

*The more potential a food has for stains the more expensive the item of clothing/fabric/furniture it strikes.
*A child's favorite one day is never a favorite the next day (especially food).
*The intensity of the tantrum is directly proportional to the amount of people around to witness.
{If it's mine it's mine,

if it's yours it's mine,

if I like it is mine,

if I can take it from you it is mine,

if I am playing with something

ALL of the pieces are mine,

if I think it is mine it is,

if I saw it first it's mine,

if I had it then put it down

it is still mine,

if you had it then you put it down

it is now mine,

if it looks like the one I have at home it is mine,

if it is broken

it is yours. }
*If I make a mess you must clean it up
*If I broke it, its your fault.
*The louder you speak and the more you repeat something is inversely proportional to the amount of information taken in.
*The more preparation time for the meal the less likely a child is to eat it.
*As soon as the snow suit, and all of the paraphernalia that accompanies, is on the child will have to use the bathroom.
*As soon as the child is in the car and the car has left the driveway the child will have to use the bathroom.
*The clothes/shoes you bought last week will not fit this week or will not be "cool" enough for this week.
*The amount of sound from the other room is inversely proportional to the amount of trouble the child is getting into.
*The more you paid for the car seat the more the child will hate it.

A Spooky Stowaway

A couple has driven 170 kilometres from South Africa's famous Kruger National Park with a highly venomous spitting cobra in their car, a local newspaper reports.
Gordon Parratt, 69, felt the 85 centimetre snake wind itself around his leg while he was driving.
At first he thought an insect had brushed his leg and swiped it away, but when he looked down he saw the snake next to his left foot, the report said.
"Fortunately I'm not the panicky type. My wife immediately put her feet up on the dashboard," he said.
The Pretoria couple made several stops to remove the snake but could not find it, until it wrapped itself around Parratt's leg.
"Its head came up to my knee," he said.
Finally the couple managed to call a snake expert to remove the cobra.
